I would give 0 stars if i was able to. Completely livid right now. Registration ended 11/17 for winter basketball for 1st grade boys (57 draft kids) and they waited til today 11/22/24 at noon to send out an email stating draft has been completed, put my son on a draft team of 10 players (draft team number 4), and then proceed to state that this team needs a coach within 24 hrs (email sent out 11/22/24 at noon and deadline of 11/23/24 at noon) or the team will be disbanded, refunds given, and the team will not be put on the schedule. Then they follow that up with "Please dont let this happen to these players and consider taking on this role." No, ASA, YOU let this happen to these players by waiting so long to take action. Why have a deadline if you are going to wait so long to take action? What a horribly run organization as a whole. What were they doing for the last 4 days with that many kids in the balance of being able to play and not to play? Why would you only give 24 hrs notice to make such a big decision? They do not have kids at the center of their interests obviously if they are willing to only give 24 hrs notice to find a coach or refund everyone's entry fees. In addition, why not have all 57 kids show up to try out to show what they have so you can rank them and place them on balanced teams accordingly? This is the most ascenine thing I have seen in my life with this many draft kids fates in the balance! In addition, this organization is volunteer only so the leadership tends to put all the work on the coaches that do volunteer (moving games, rescheduling, etc) which is why i dont plan on volunteering again. If you go PSA, the staff there are paid so they are much more willing to assist in contacting other coaches for you and tend to take on more of the workload. In addition to all that, I have seen multiple times where ASA changed gym locations for practices less than 2 hrs previous to and just expected everyone to see their emails with 2 hrs notice. ASA tends to have a shortage of referees as well as we had many games where only one referee was there and a couple of games where coaches had to referee as well. Completely disorganized and dont recommend. Go play PSA.

Do not recommend this organization. After removing a girl off our team who was the correct age but in the wrong grade, a lot of the parents complained, they are now seemingly retaliating on the team by threatening to suspend or disqualify the team from games. They refuse to address complaints made that CLEARLY go against their own rules on other teams to include allowing all star and select teams and sportsmanship by not running up the scores, they openly admit their own referees are terrible, and they refuse to have a representative at the games to oversee that the rules are followed. As of the last game the parents of the opposing team sent in an email I can only assume was coached by ASA themselves, about the behavior of the parents when their own coaches were yelling loudly to hurt players on our team and take them out of the game, the parents were cussing at our parents, the coaches yelled at the fans, the referees only threw penalties on our team bc they wanted the game to be “fair”, like penalizing our players with personal fouls for standing up excitedly after making a play while their whole team would celebrate in the end zone with no penalty. Now they are holding a meeting to decide to take more action against our team. This organization is ridiculous and until I see some changes I absolutely do not recommend.

ASA was decent years ago and instead of improving, to benefit players and volunteer coaches, things have gotten worse. They just don't listen and blame select organizations for why players leave. We know lots of people who have left because they are so frustrated with how things are under ASA (just read the other negative reviews from other parents), not because they want to go to select/club and spend the extra time and money. There is a lot of potential but the leadership needs fresh leaders who can really make a difference for the players and volunteer coaches. Do yourself a favor and look into other options/sports for your kiddos.

My girls have played various sports through ASA for the past 8 years. I have coached many of their teams and met lots of wonderful people in the organization. I find that everyone I have worked with has been very helpful and the focus is on the children. Of course, when you are dealing with volunteer parents coaches, you are taking a gamble. You don't know what your're going to get. But I have been very lucky and pleased to have had many years of positive experiences for both my girls!

Do not let your children play in this organization. Stay far away from Allen sports association. Parents fighting at football games and nothing was done about it and just let them continue to fight. Very unsportsmanlike conduct that was never called, this is also a organization that let in select teams that played rec teams, also referees regularly smoking weed in their cars before games, stay away from this organization at all costs.

My daughter has played softball with ASA for the past 4 seasons. Our family had moved over from PSA and the changes are drastic. The facilities are the first major improvement. The girls are able to practice on the fields once a week and the venue has turf so rain outs are not a huge factor. We also love the concession stand and nice bathrooms. Schedules are posted in a timely manner which makes planning events easier. The board of directors are readily available and quick to communicate and respond to e-mails. They have all been amazing and my daughter has grown so much from the level of competition in Allen.
